Saab Key Programming
Saab cars that were built prior to 1994 have an immobilizer feature that is based on codes for keys. A new transponder is required to allow the addition of an additional key, and special programming. This is usually done by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
The issue is that it can be very expensive. You should always keep an extra set of keys at hand.
Transponder key
The transponder keys are keys with an electronic chip that sends a signal back to the car when it is inserted into the ignition. The car then checks to see whether the signal is the same as the one on the key. If the signals match it will open itself and start. This is a great way to protect your vehicle from theft.
Transponder keys are a common feature in automobiles, but you should be aware that they are not as secure as classic metal keys. The metal component of a traditional key can easily be copied and cut, but a transponder has an electronic chip which protects it. This chip contains an individual code that is programmed into the car's computer to identify it.
The car will recognize the Saab keyfob and permit it to turn on. The car will only recognize the key fob if the device has an unmodified chip and has been programmed to match. The car won't start when the key isn't programmed to match.
It is vital to have an extra Saab key. This is especially important when you live in a rural area, where there are a lot of car burglars. Wired key
Saab cars typically come with two keys upon purchase. If you have only one, you should purchase an additional key as quickly as you can. This is because if you lose it and the car is damaged, it will require a new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This could be expensive especially if you're purchasing a used vehicle.
The next step is to connect the column and row wires to the microcontroller. This is the most difficult part of the project, and it will require a lot of soldering. It's not a common way to do it, but you need to think about how to route and solder each column and row. There are 22 microcontroller pins and wires to connect for this keyboard. It has five rows and 17 columns.
After the columns and rows are joined then it's time to connect the key switches. To do this, put a diode on each key switch pin and then solder it. This will shield the pins from current, preventing them from being shortened. The diode will only allow current to flow in one direction, and it has an indicator in black that indicates which way the current will flow.

Jump-starting the battery
A majority of people keep the set in their trunk to start a car in an emergency, but it might not be a good option for vehicles with newer technology. These vehicles are equipped with numerous digital and computers that communicate with each other. A surge in voltage while the battery is connected to another could cause damage to the components and render your vehicle undriveable.
Start the vehicle that is working and allow it to run for approximately two minutes before you connect the cables to the battery that is not working. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the good battery (it will have "POS" or "+" on it). Attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted, clean metal surface beneath the damaged car's hood--the engine block is a good choice. The black cable is not to be connected to the negative terminal of the dead battery. This could create sparks that could ignite the gasoline in the engine compartment.
Once the cables are connected, you can start the vehicle that has been disabled and let it run for approximately five minutes before disconnecting the cables in reverse order. Keys that are claimed as new from a second-hand store will not work and are almost guaranteed to fail in the crucial moment.
The dealer will charge the highest dollar for only one working key. We can, however, reset and re-program your computer's EEPROM to accept the new key without having to replace the whole system. This can save you a lot of money. It's also a lot cheaper than waiting until you lose your sole key.
